Locked Out After 74 Years?
The Pasadena Unified School District board has inexplicably voted to permanently block access from Lower Hastings Ranch to the walkway connecting Rim Road and Sierra Madre Boulevard. This walkway exists because of a documented 1949 agreement among the builder, the city and the school district, and it has benefited our neighborhood for over 70 years, as a pedestrian route and as a possible exit path in the event of an emergency. Even more puzzling is the fact that the District had just completed a $700,000 fencing and landscaping project, funded with Measure O 2020 taxpayer dollars, and undertaken purportedly for the very purpose of keeping the walkway open while ensuring the safety of the school community. Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo has met with concerned neighbors and has reached out to the District to re-open discussions. LHRA will stay tuned to the ongoing conversations and will keep you updated.
